The Gut Cup

Things I think, that you should too.

Felicia Day

July26

Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog

Okay. Wow. Uma Thurman still tops my list, but Felicia Day is second on the list. (Felicia Day plays Penny)

Mind you, wanting to shout “She’s number two!” doesn’t strike me as particularly complimentary.

This is good stuff by the way. Its like 4 bucks. Go buy it.

Odd Dreams

July25

Oh yeah, I had the oddest dream last night. Me and Matt were in a superhero/villain bar/restaurant eating dinner. In the booth behind me, The Beast, Hercules, and Doctor Druid were hanging out. The booth further down had Doctor Strange and some of the New Avengers. (Who, I’m not sure). Doctor Druid and Doctor Strange got into a bar fight.

Later, an all female version of the Wrecking Crew were trying to pick me up (like that would be hard….). Both the “pick up” in terms of take home and fuck silly sense, and pick up physically.

Odd dream.

Night before last, I had another weird dream – earth had been taken over by this group of rather odd, stilted aliens. They kept investigating me because of the library books I would check out. They even assigned one to live in this apartment that me, Johnny, and my friend JigsawDiva shared. He was a pretty nice guy, for an alien occupier. We were sitting around this table, talking to him, because he had just gotten back as the sole survivor of this alien group which he had led through this door in the wall next to us. It led to this cave that a beholder lived in, and the beholder had kicked their ass. Anyway, he had been ordered not to attack the beholder again. For some reason, it was important that the beholder be killed. I have no idea why. Anyway, he was modifying his insignia with duct tape, to give himself authority to order a new attack on the beholder (by himself). Me, Johnny, and Jigsawdiva were going to help him, since he was such a nice guy. I was oiling my Glock, Johnny his ruger, and Jigsawdiva had been given some sort of alien ray gun.

I don’t know what happened.

Though, I have to note, as much as I like Glocks, my glock would not be my weapon of choice for fighting a beholder.

I love dreams. You sure can’t ever tell whats going to happen in them. (Though the library part is because I have a library book due today, and all the Superhero’s were because of seeing the Dark Knight movie.)

E-gold – money laundering

July24

Urk. Nasty, nasty ways of thinking are becoming more and more common, and more obvious, all the time.

Just FYI, eGold did support child porn, fraud, and probably terrorism, if only by negligence and inaction. The prosecutor’s indictment clearly spells that out, showing how the company was aware or at least suspected that dozens of customers were involved in illegal activity and did nothing. The evidence is in the company’s own files, seized by the FBI and USSS.

Taken from http://www.securityfocus.com/comments/articles/11462/34498#34498, which also has the lovely quote

“Douglas Jackson and his associates operated a sophisticated and widespread international money remitting business, unsupervised and unregulated by any entity in the world, which allowed for anonymous transfers of value at a click of a mouse,” Jeffrey Taylor, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, said in a statement.

That sounds like what every single bank SHOULD be. Hell, thats the goal for a free world!

I increasingly despair about what this country is becoming.

Previews

July20

Okay, part of the movie experience is watching trailers that match the featured movie in length. And boy, do some of them make you wonder how they ever got made. Like “The House Bunny“…

Then, a preview for Step Brothers came on…and I realize it takes all types. Because I would consider seeing Step Brothers. Well, who am I kidding, I would see “The House Bunny” as well, if there are lots of boob shots (which I doubt, given the preview).

Hellboy 2

July20

I saw it tonight – and since when do evening movies cost 9.50? Thats fucking insane! No wonder I don’t see many movies. Not to mention that coke and popcorn were more than 10 bucks. I do plan on seeing Wall-E, and Dark Knight in the theaters though.

Anyway – the movie. Overall, not as good as the first one. Hellboy had more heart in the first movie. On the other hand, Selma Blair’s Liz is much better done in this one.

I kept getting flashbacks to the Star Wars Cantina at the Troll market. I could have sworn I heard a wookie, too.

Its not worth evening prices, but it makes a nice matinee.

Oh yeah, anyone who couldn’t see how Nuada would meet his end simply doesn’t have much imagination.

The propaganda intensifies, smoking and drinking

July13

Okay – this is from a “sob story” piece, about a sweet little baby.

Here is the propaganda

Emma was given up twice — by her 23-year-old birth mother, a drug-user, smoker and drinker who knew she could never care for the baby, and by a 48-year-old adoptive mother who backed out when she learned of Emma’s heart condition and of her own pregnancy by in-vitro fertilization.

To repeat – “a drug-user, smoker, and drinker”. Hell, I don’t smoke (but I might start at this propaganda rate) but I drink 5-6 beers a year, take lexapro, and I’ve been known to take a couple of advil and aspirin on occasion. I guess 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

Edit add:

Ack!!!! Also on that page, is a link at the bottom to “Drinking games prove deadly to college kids“. Newsflash – College students are not kids. No way, no how.

Second edit add:

Okay that second link, about college “kids” (the example was 20 when she died) has a very black, macabre quote that I love about her death

Exactly how much Jenna drank that night isn’t clear. The coroner did not release her blood-alcohol level, saying only that it was “not compatible with life.”

Would it be in bad taste to admit that one made me laugh out loud?

Also interesting, are two paragraphs that show that the drinking age law itself is a big part of the problem…

Walters said one reason is that freshmen are on their own for the first time and trying new things. Also, there is a mentality that “if you’re under 21 and someone’s got alcohol, you’ve got to drink it, because you never know when somebody’s going to have it again.”

One practice — drinking 21 shots on a 21st birthday — has proven especially lethal. Of the college-age deaths that made news, 11 people, including eight college students, died while celebrating their 21st birthdays.

A pondering, about the nature of Freedom, and cholera

July13

So, I’m presently reading The Ghost Map – which is a flawed, but amazing book, and I wonder – If you dismantle the government safety net/public health infrastructure, which arguably increases freedom, will class distinctions grow stronger, to replace them, and reduce freedom in turn? (How’s that for a run on sentence?).

Has the growth of the government in the United States drastically decreased the importance of class? (Even though class still exists, and is a definite force in modern society).

The ghost map, by the way, is about the broad street pump cholera outbreak in London, in the 19th century.

Related, though not obviously, having choices, and being free, are not the same thing. Take the following

Who is more free, a billionaire with two homes, multiple cars, several companies, and a household wait staff, or a street prostitute who has to give at least 4 blowjobs a days to earn enough to eat?

Those who haven’t thought about the nature of freedom, will conclude that because the billionaire has more choices, that he also has the most freedom. Its equally wrong to say the prostitute has more freedom. Its a trick question. It doesn’t provide any of the information you would need to decide who has the most freedom (if its even possible to have more freedom than another person – something I am undecided on).

Political correctness run amok again – Canada this time

July11

A white supremacist in Canada has her children taken away after her daughter goes to school twice with a swastika drawn on her arm.

Don’t people understand what freedom is?

This is why we need small, weak governments.

A note about wisdom

July9

Last night I had half a cheesecake for supper. This morning, I had the other half for breakfast.

This was not wise.

I love Parrots

July9

I don’t think its a secret that I love Parrots, especially Macaws.

Anyway, tonight I was hanging out with Kermit in the living room, and Harley was out and about. I knew he was in the Kitchen, and I couldn’t see him. I could hear a bit, but not enough to know what he was doing. Harley is my wonderful Blue and Gold Macaw. Anyway, when I went to look, he was hanging on the freezer door handle, picking off my refrigerator magnets (I have 19) and dropping them. My freezer is on the top of my refrigerator.

The night before, I was trying to read a magazine in my living room. Harley was in my lap, and Kiwi, my amazon, was climbing around on my upper body. I was going through gymnastics to keep the magazine from being shredded by the two. Finally Harley just started working on prying my fingers off the magazine so that I could give him head scratches.

I love my birds.

Another note to myself

July6

Hey, Rick Moranis (remember him?) put out an album! The Agoraphobic Cowboy. Itunes has it, and it sounds decent (especially I ain’t going nowhere). I might have to pick up a couple of songs from it.

Holy Shit Batman! Part 2, and a misc note

July5

Alright, why are my post times showing an hour early? Bah, I’ll mess with that later.

Here we have a FAQ

Who Are the Hash House Harriers?

Hashing . . . it’s a mixture of athleticism and sociability, hedonism and hard work, a refreshing escape from the nine-to-five dweebs you’re stuck with five days a week. Hashing is an exhilaratingly fun combination of running, orienteering, and partying, where bands of harriers and harriettes chase hares on eight-to-ten kilometer-long trails through town, country, and desert, all in search of exercise, camaraderie, and good times.

Hashing began in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1938, when a group of British colonial officials and expatriates founded a running club called the Hash House Harriers. They named the group after their meeting place, the Selangor Club, nicknamed the “Hash House.” Hash House Harrier runs were patterned after the traditional British paper chase. A “hare” was given a head start to blaze a trail, marking his devious way with shreds of paper, all the while pursued by a shouting pack of “harriers.” Only the hare knew where he was going . . . the harriers followed his clues to stay on trail. Apart from the excitement of chasing the hare and solving the clues, reaching the end was its own reward . . . for there, thirsty harriers would find a tub of iced-down beer.

Hashing died out during World War II (Japanese occupying forces being notoriously anti-fun) but picked up in the post-war years, spreading through the Far East, Australia, and New Zealand . . . then exploding in popularity in the mid-70s. Today there are thousands of Hash House Harrier clubs in all parts of the world, with newsletters, directories, and even regional and world hashing conventions.

Hashing hasn’t strayed far from its Kuala Lumpur roots. A typical hash today is a loosely-organized group of 20-40 men and women who meet weekly or biweekly to chase the hare. We follow chalk, flour, or paper, and the trails are never boring . . . we run streets and back alleyways, but we also ford streams, climb fences, explore storm drains, and scale cliffs. And although some of today’s health-conscious hashers may shun cold beer in favor of water or diet sodas, trail’s end is still a celebration and a party.

Click here to locate a Hash group near you.

So . . . if you’d like to spice up your running program with fun, good company, new surroundings, and physical challenge, try hashing. Just remember one thing . . . NEVER wear new shoes to the hash!

GOALS OF THE HASH
. . . from the 1938 charter of the Kuala Lumpur Hash House Harriers
To promote physical fitness among our members
To get rid of weekend hangovers
To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer
To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel

Alright, I got a comment (which you can see below) from the author of the above (its copyrighted, predictably), and he wants a link to the true source….. which is what I just gave you. Its a better link than the first actually, because it has pictures. Not to mention that its the ethical thing to do, since this post is 99.9% his article, with nothing from me…….
